Mapping out a Road Trip

Road trip! Road trip! Are you familiar with the phrase, “it’s not about the destination, but the journey?” When it comes to road trips, this could not ring truer. While your vacation technically begins once you have arrived at your destination, there is no reason that you cannot make the journey just as fun and memorable.

Many people opt to fly to their destination if it is a bit of a hike from where they live, however, there are lots of reasons why you should choose to take a road trip, because it is truly a unique travel experience and the opportunity of a lifetime!

Road trips are not only great bonding experiences, but an awesome way to explore new areas that you would never see otherwise. When planning a road trip, you can check out cool attractions along the way in states that you have never been to and create several mini vacations all lumped into one.

When you go on a road trip, it actually helps you to save some money, allows you to be more flexible and spontaneous, discover hidden gems along the way, and create everlasting memories. Are you sold on a road trip yet?

Taking a Road Trip

Check out some of the items that you must be sure to pack for your road trip to set you up for the ultimate success.

1 – Your registration and car insurance information.

First thing’s first – make sure that your registration is in your car and that it is handy! You do not want to leave your home without this, as it is truly essential in case you get pulled over or get into a car accident. You also want to make sure that you have some record of your car insurance handy just in case as well.

2 – A charger for your phone.

There is nothing – truly nothing – worse than your phone dying while you are on the road. Especially given many people use their smartphones for a GPS these days, you want to ensure that there is no chance that your phone will die in the middle of your road trip.

Make sure that you have a car charger plugged in and ready for your phone, and a backup just in case the one that you normally use gets wonky or dies. Your phone should stay charged throughout the entire duration of your road trip. Plus, you will need to have those tunes going!

3 – Snacks.

You cannot have a good road trip without some snacks. If you are someone that can get hungry, or hangry, if you do not eat for a period of time, then snacks are crucial.

Keep a box of some chips, energy bars, peanut butter, and other items that do not need to be refrigerated handy so that you can munch on something if you get hungry before your next stop on the road.

4 – Cooler with drinks.

You must ensure that you are staying hydrated throughout the duration of your road trip, and a great way to do this is by keeping a cooler in the back seat or trunk of your car full of waters, sodas, and some drinks with electrolytes such as Gatorade.

Make sure that you are keeping a good stock of drinks throughout the whole road trip and replenishing the cooler as necessary.

5 – Blanket and pillows.

For those that will not be driving, blankets and pillows are a must. During your road trip, you may find yourself getting tired, especially as you are driving through the night. Keep some blankets and pillows in the car so that you can be as comfortable as possible if you take a nap on the road.

6 – First aid kit.

You never know what may happen while you are out on the road, so it is better to be safe rather than sorry. Keep a first aid kit in your car with basic supplies such as hand sanitizer, band-aids, antiseptic wipes, and other essentials. This will be good to have in case of any emergency that might come up.
