As much as you’d like to, you can’t always control the noise around you. Although you can’t control the noise, you can try to minimize how much of it you hear. Let’s say you want to soundproof your home office, or maybe you want to soundproof your baby’s nursery. To create a quiet oasis, check out these tips on soundproofing a room in your home.

Carpet or Rugs

When it comes to tips on soundproofing a room in your home, the best thing to do is add mass. If you have carpet or tile floors, it’s more likely that you’ll hear noises from other roofs. To absorb sound, consider adding carpet or rugs. If you choose to install carpet, make sure that it’s from wall to wall. If this isn’t a practical option for you, a rug works just as well. A thick rug is the best option for soundproofing a room. Be sure you consider how to choose the right rug material before you purchase a new one.

Bookcase

Since mass absorbs sound, consider adding mass to the walls. You can do this in many ways, but one of the easiest ways is by adding a bookcase. You need a bookcase that extends from floor to ceiling, though. You could buy a stand-alone bookcase or you could install a built-in bookcase. Once you have the bookcase set up, you must fill it with books. Not only can this help soundproof a room, but it can also add a nice aesthetic to the room.

Window Treatments

Lastly, you can add window treatments to soundproof a room. This is especially helpful if the noise is coming from outside. For example, let’s say your home office is right next to the train tracks. If this is the case, you might choose to install soundproof windows. You can also purchase soundproof inserts that can be added to existing windows. If neither of these options sound appealing, you can also seal the cracks around your windows. This should help prevent sound from getting through them.
